About the Congress
The Congress on European Security and Defence is a common initiative of the Behörden Spiegel with Dr. Karl von Wogau, former Chairman of the Subcommittee on European Security and Defence of the European Parliament and Secretary General of the European Security Foundation (ESF). The Congress was established in 2002 and met six years under the title "Congress on European Defence". Since security and defence aspects are closely related, the congress began to broaden its focus and to deal with both subjects. For this reason it was renamed in 2008 as "Congress on European Security and Defence".
The Congress on European Security and Defence is an international event of two days, which takes place in the Berlin Congress Center (bcc) – an ideal location for events of this size in the German capital – at the Alexander Square. The President of the European Parliament, high-ranking representatives of the European Commission, well-kown members of the European Parliament and of national Parliaments, Ministers and Deputy Ministers/State Secretaries of the EU nations, high-ranking members of national authorities, generals and admirals of many NATO and EU nations and top mangers of industry have spoken in Berlin.
A conference with a two-day's plenary session and ten panels are the main events of this congress. A large exhibition with national and international companies representing German, European and US industries are complementing the conference and providing an excellent opportunity for direct contacts. A pre-event reception in one of the European embassies in Berlin and a reception in the Congress Center the first evening allow efficient networking for all visitors. This congress has meanwhile become the main yearly event concerning the European Security and Defence Policy.

- 44 speakers in the main programme and more than 70 speakers in the 12 panel sessions including the former Chancellor of Austria, the former President of the European Parliament, State Secretaries, three European Ministers of Defence, the Chief of the German Army, three Commanders of European Armies, Generals/Admirals and high-ranking representatives of industry

- about 30 exhibitors on two floors
